This is a collection of my favorite images of 2022. The year was heavily devoted to travel, as Covid restrictions eased. It began with a wonderful 10 days in Death Valley, CA -- what a treat to witness the grandeur and diversity of this vast desert! The changing light and weather conditions in the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes produced some of my favorite images. After a two-month stay in Rome to focus on street photography, most of my time was spent making photographs in coastal areas here in the US, or abroad: on the island of Nantucket; around Ilulissat on the west coast of Greenland; in Normandy, on the west coast of France; and in the Scottish Highlands on the north coast. My original plan was to force myself to choose 12 images for my "favorites" of 2022, from among the thousands I had made. I ended up relaxing that goal slightly. In August, I spent a week in a remote region of the Katmai Peninsula in Alaska to photograph brown bears during the annual salmon run -- so I've included an additional three images from that project. I love being out in nature, experiencing and documenting the beauty of our natural world, and am looking forward to more adventures in 2023!
