Archives: Wildlife: Horses Of The Camargue

This is a collection of images of the white horses of the Camargue region of France. The Camargue horse is an ancient breed that is indigenous to this area of southern France, where for centuries the horses lived wild in the marshes and wetlands of the Rhone River delta. As a result, today these horses are known for their stamina, strength and agility. Adult horses typically have a white coat of hair, which makes them distinctive as they gallop through the marshes. The Camargue horses are managed by local cowboys, or "gardiens".
